Job Description

A Photonic Device Engineer will be working as part of a design and test team for semiconductor lasers and photonic integrated circuits (PICs) for a variety of applications. Examples include both integrated active and passive photonic devices, in III-V and Si based platforms. The following job duties are of equal importance:

  • Photonic Device Design
    • The ideal candidate will have industry experience with modeling of both active and passive photonic devices, as well as de-embedding design parameters experimentally
    • The candidate have industry experience with a range of photonic design practices and methods
  • Mask Layout
    • The candidate will work with process engineers to convert device designs into a viable fabrication process. Understanding of device fabrication processes is a must
    • Based on the fabrication process, the candidate will work with device engineers on producing lithographic mask sets for the fabrication. Hands on mask design experience is a plus
  • Testing
    • The ideal candidate will be able to formulate test plans and design test campaigns necessary to characterize a variety of different devices, determine, monitor and improve yields, and support production
    • Part of the job will be related to the design and building of new test stations, and their automation
    • Hands on experience with photonic device testing in an industrial setting is a strong preference

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics or Physics, with a strong background in waveguide photonics and semiconductor device physics, or equivalent experience
  • Hands-on industry experience with design and test of photonic ICs and/or semiconductor (high power) lasers, minimum 3 years experience
  • Self-motivated team player able to work with minimum supervision desired

Job Description

A Photonic Test Engineer will be working as part of a design and test team on a variety of photonic device and optical subsystems test tasks. Examples include testing of lasers, high-speed photodiodes, passive optical components or microoptic assemblies. Specific job duties include:

  • Test
    • Test plan definition for novel photonic components or optical subsystems; Hands-on testing of advanced photonics components; Training and supervision of test technicians on routine test tasks
  • Test Setup Build and Automation
    • Participation in the new test set definition and build. Test setup automation through writing scripts and test routines
  • Data Processing and Analysis
    • Test data collection and processing. Test data analysis, interpretation, and reporting in interaction with design and fabrication teams.

Desired Experience and Qualifications

Following qualifications are desired, but they are not required to be considered for the position:

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Applied Physics or Physics, with a background in photonics preferred, other STEM degrees will be considered, or equivalent experience
  • Hands-on industry experience with test of photonic ICs, active waveguide devices and/or semiconductor lasers a strong plus
  • Self-motivated team player able to work with minimum supervision desired
  • Knowledge of opto-electronic/photonic components and subsystems
  • A self-motivated and directed individual is preferred

Electronic Design Engineer

Job Description

A talented and motivated multidisciplinary Electronics Engineer will participate in all aspects of the development of complex optoelectronic products. The ideal candidate will possess relevant experience in hardware/firmware/software and will apply his or her skills both independently and as part of a team in any or all of the following specific areas:

  • Design conceptualization based on customer/internal requirements and specifications
  • Design and simulation of precision analog circuits for driving and sensing optoelectronic devices
  • Mixed signal system design utilizing MCUs, DSPs, FPGAs, etc. including algorithm development and implementation
  • Circuit prototyping and performance evaluation
  • Schematic capture, PCB layout, BOM generation and maintenance
  • Working with vendors to achieve highly reliable state of the art PCB assemblies
  • Writing PC side software to facilitate characterization and engineering level testing of designs
  • Thorough documentation of all designs

Desired Experience and Qualifications

Following qualifications are desired, but they are not required to be considered for the position:

  • M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Experience with RF simulation (>=10 GHz)
  • Active and passive component selection
  • Hands-on experience in schematic and board layout, building and test
  • Knowledge of opto-electronic/photonic components and subsystems
  • A self-motivated and directed individual is preferred
